World's Best Strawberry Vertical Farm Made With Its Own Technology

Until now, crop cultivation in indoor vertical farms has been centered on leafy vegetables, but there have been many difficulties in securing economic feasibility, and strawberries, which are fruits, have been promoted by several companies, but it has been known that it is difficult to succeed in commercialization due to difficulties in cultivating and securing quality. Ubien Co., Ltd. has recently succeeded in cultivating strawberries for highly commercially available domestic strawberry varieties (seolhyang, altaking, and vitaking) at vertical farms in containers and will expand its business in earnest.
The biggest feature of UBN vertical farm system (vert·i) is not the general vertical farm multi-stage cultivation system, but the vertical cultivation system in the form of cultivation tower. It is an innovative cultivation method to solve the economic problem of vertical farms by drastically increasing cultivation per unit area based on vertical unit surface, not horizontal. It is the first method to attempt strawberry cultivation in Korea, and it is known that several companies have tried strawberry cultivation overseas, but failed to commercialize it. Ubien has completed patent registration and is currently preparing for a full-fledged expansion project after successfully testing and cultivating strawberries three times.
In addition, it is preparing for carbon neutrality and RE100 certification by reusing liquid to reduce environmental pollution, reducing water use, heat pump cooling and air conditioning system to reduce energy, LED for low-heat, high-efficiency crops, and solar renewable energy, and contributes to localization and advancement of vertical farm technology by independently developing and securing core technologies needed in vertical farms.
UBN has developed "FarmLink," the first distributed processing smart farm solution based on cloud and wireless control in Korea, and has been recognized for its technology to the extent that it recently won the Prime Minister's Commendation at the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Science and Technology Awards. It has completed the development of elemental technology for strawberry vertical farms by integrating smart farm-related technologies, and is currently conducting vertically farm demonstration cultivation of domestic strawberry varieties in collaboration with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services to disseminate various strawberry cultivation technologies in vertical farms.
